Photography, creating an image, looking through a viewfinder are some of my most intimate experiences with the world. A moment is full of movement, play, textures, lines, and shapes and inspires a frank look to organize and bind those elements. While the process of photography is very active, it is the final product, an image on a flat plane that most intrigues me. Tree branches become line studies, and tree bases interesting forms. Windows reflecting out and looking in seem collage like. Blocks of texture provided by peeling paper, galvanized metal, and concrete look more like abstract paintings. I am not so interested in creating a recognizable image as I am in a new image.
Certainly, this is an immediate reaction to my surroundings, but it is also a measured response. First, realization leads me to look, and experience - not just of image making but, also, of image viewing - determines my objective. A knowledge of my own and others' works and theory contribute to each image. The results of which, interest me a great deal.
Please email me if you are interested in showing or purchasing any of my work. While much of my work is online, some of it is not and is available for personal viewing.
